Mary MagdaleneMary was from the City of Magdala, by the Sea of Galilee. Mary was tormented by demons, not just one demon but seven. Mary's life was miserable. She suffered terribly from demon-possession every day. She wanted to be free of their hold on her, but she became weaker and they grew stronger. Some days the struggle with the demons were so fierce that Mary would be thrown into wild seizures with such a tremendous rage until she became so drained that she would fall on to the ground from total exhaustion.Mary was sad and lonely. No one wanted to be friends with a woman who was tormented by demons. Mary felt as if no one would ever truly love her. Then something totally unexpected happened to Mary. Jesus of Nazareth had come to her town and He crossed her path. When Jesus passed by Mary the demons fled from her. Right away Mary had noticed that something was different. Her body and mind were at peace. She was no longer haunted by the evil spirits. The seven demons had been driven away by the very presence of Jesus. Mary had to know more about this man who made the demons flee. She had to learn more about His teachings. Mary knew that she had to follow Jesus wherever He went. She was finally free of the demons torment. She was overjoyed and full of happiness. Jesus accepted and loved her for who she was. He looked her straight in the eyes and told her about God's love for Her. Never before had Mary seen so much love and kindness from anyone. Jesus loved her so much that He made the demons flee from her to give her fullness of life! Mary became one of Jesus' most committed followers. She followed Jesus from town to town to teach people about God's love and freedom to live life to it's fullness. Mary became known as Mary Magdalene, because she was from the city of Magdala and Magdalene means Tower of Strength. Mary was a tower of strength. She is an example of how a touch from Jesus can change a person from torment to a tower of strength. Jesus accepts us where we are and changes our hearts and life forever! In Luke 9: Mary Magdalene is the first woman mentioned that followed and helped support Jesus' ministry on Earth. You can also read our story about Mary Magdalene on The First Easter Morning.
