Jesus Chooses Twelve Disciples

One day Jesus was walking by Lake Galilee. He saw two brothers, Simon, called Peter, and Andrew. The brothers were fishing in the Lake with a net. Jesus said to them "Come follow me, I will make you fishermen for men." At once both Peter and Andrew dropped their nets and followed Jesus.

Jesus continued walking by Lake Galilee. He saw two more brothers. James and John the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father, preparing their nets to catch fish. Jesus said to them "Follow Me". At once they left their boat and their father and followed Jesus. (Matthew 4:19-22)

Jesus had just healed a paralyzed man, and was leaving, when he saw a man named Matthew. Matthew was a tax collector, and was sitting in the tax office. Jesus said to him, "Follow Me". Matthew stood up and went with Jesus. That night Jesus had dinner at Matthew's house. Many tax collectors and sinners came and ate dinner with Jesus and His followers. The Pharisees saw this and asked His followers, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" Jesus heard them and answered saying, "Healthy people do not need a Doctor. Only the sick need a Doctor. I want faithful love more than I want animal sacrifices. I did not come to invite good people. I came to invite sinners." (Matthew 9:9-12)

Jesus went off to a mountain to pray. He stayed there all night, praying to God. The next morning Jesus called his twelve disciples together. He gave them power to drive out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and sickness. These are the names of the 12 apostles: Simon (also called Peter), and his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Phillip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew, the tax collector; James son of Alpaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot; and Judas, the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Jesus. (Matthew 10:1-4 and Luke 6:12-16)

The Great Commisssion

After Jesus died and rose from the dead, He walked on earth for 40 days. Jesus told his eleven disciples, (Judas Iscariot hung himself after he betrayed Jesus), to meet him at the mountain. When they saw Jesus they worshiped Him. Jesus came to them and said "All authroity in heaven and in earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make discples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age."
