Baby Moses ~
              Safe in the Bulrush Basket

King Pharaoh of Egypt made a new rule. He wanted all baby boy Israelites to be killed by being thrown into the Nile River.

A beautiful baby boy was born into an Israelite family. The mother hid him so that her baby would not be taken away and thrown into the river. When the baby was three months old she wove leaves from bulrushes into a basket shape and covered the outside with tar and mud so that it would float on water. She decided to hide her baby son in this water proof bulrush ark. Miriam, her daughter went with her to the Nile River to hide the baby. They placed the baby in the basket and hid him behind the reeds. "What a great idea," said Miriam. "The soldiers will never find my baby brother here." "Mother please let me stay here, so that I can watch over my baby brother. I want to see what God will do to keep my brother safe. I can hide behind the bulrushes so no one will see me." Her Mother agreed. "Let us Pray to God before I leave," said Mother. "Dear God in Heaven please watch over my childen, and protect them from all harm. Find a way to keep my baby safe. Amen"

Later that day, Pharaoh's daughter came to the river for a bath. She saw the little straw basket and asked one of her servants to go see what was in it. When the servant girl opened the basket they saw the beautiful baby boy. The baby started to cry so the princess picked him up and held him. She realized this was an Israelite baby, and God softened the princess' heart. "I will take care of this baby. I will call him 'Moses' because I drew him out of the water."

Miriam saw what had happened so she went to the Princess. "Do you want me to find a nurse to take care of the baby and feed him?" "Oh yes, please do" said the princess. So Miriam rushed home to tell her Mother the good news, and to bring her back to the river. "Take this baby and raise him for me," the princess told Moses' mother. "When he is no longer nursing bring him back to me. I will raise the boy as my son in the palace."

God protected Moses from being killed and provided a way to keep him safe.
