I have read several disturbing law suits against Christianity over the years that have upset me but this one touched me straight to my heart because Austin is my home town. I was born here, my father was born here, and my great grandfather came here in 1915. My grandmother's families came to central Texas around the 1840s.
So I felt I had to do something!
My first plan of action was to involve my children because I want them to feel passionate and proud of their Christian heritage. I want them to know not only who they are in Christ, and who their parents are in Christ, but that they have a legacy of grandparents and ancestors who proudly claimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
My second plan was to reach out to other Christian parents to help them to also teach their children the Ten Commandments and how important God's Rules are to us. The Bible tells us to teach our children about God and His Word. The Ten Commandments are God's most important rules for us to obey. They were given to mark believers as true followers of God, as being God's holy, blessed and treasured people.
Our family took a trip to the Capital grounds to see and touch the Ten Commandments monument that was the main focus of the law suit. We took our camera to capture the memories of our tour and to share our experience with the Just 4 Kids Magazine readers in pictures.
We researched books and biblical resources to find the best way to teach the deeper meaning of these simply worded rules that God commanded us to keep. Finally we searched for the best craft ideas to help reinforce our lessons and to add fun to class time. A monument in our children's room that they made with their own hands will help them remember the lesson during the week.

"Why the Ten Commandments Matter" by D. James Kennedy
Book Description: "From the acclaimed author and minister comes a rejuvenating, meditative examination of the value of the Ten Commandments in today’s America. D. James Kennedy believes many of the social ills that plague America today--from an exponentially rising divorce rate to the violence in our schools--stem from society’s ever-increasing distance from the Ten Commandments. Kennedy advocates a return to these fundamental laws, which have the power to prevent further tragedy and transgression, and to unify a nation. Kennedy’s message on the urgency of regression is aimed at Christians and non-Christians alike, and what results is a biblical prescription for happier, healthier living."
